"Christ" Sermon Series

As we continue our multi-year journey through the Gospels, Christ will take us verse by verse through Mark 8:27–10:52, the turning point where Jesus is confessed as the Christ and reveals what that title will cost. This five-part series begins August 16 and continues through September 13, inviting us to see the identity and mission of Christ as Jesus reveals Himself not as a conquering king, but as a suffering Servant who calls His followers to take up their cross.

Jesus asks His disciples one question: Who do you say that I am? Peter finally says the words: "You are the Christ." Then he resists what it means. Three times Jesus predicts His death. Three times the disciples miss it. A boy is freed. A rich man walks away. A blind man is healed. In every moment, Jesus is revealing what kind of Christ He truly is.

He is the Christ, the Son of Man who did not come to be served, but to serve. He gives His life as a ransom for many. Suffering does not disprove His identity, it defines it. Greatness means becoming a servant of all. Sight is given to the humble, not the confident. This is authority that lays itself down.

And as the story unfolds, one reality becomes unavoidable. Understanding grows, but so does the cost. To confess Him as the Christ is not a casual statement. It is a call to deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Him to Jerusalem.

This series continues to build our understanding of Jesus, revealing not only what He does, but who He is as the Christ who suffers, serves, and saves. As we walk through this pivotal section of Mark, we are invited to respond as Bartimaeus did: to cry out for mercy, receive sight, and follow Him on the way.

En cada momento, Jesús va revelando qué tipo de Cristo es realmente.

Él es el Cristo, el Hijo del Hombre que no vino para que le sirvieran, sino para servir. Da su vida en rescate por muchos. El sufrimiento no desmiente su identidad, sino que la define. La grandeza significa convertirse en siervo de todos. La vista se concede a los humildes, no al orgulloso. Esta es la autoridad que se entrega a sí misma.

Y a medida que avanza la historia, una realidad se vuelve inevitable. La comprensión crece, pero también lo hace el precio. Confesar que Él es el Cristo no es una afirmación cualquiera. Es un llamado a negarte a ti mismo, a tomar tu cruz y a seguirle hasta Jerusalén.
